Driving down the street, on her way to a party, she saw what looked like trash along the side of the road. As she passed by, she turned to look and saw 2 little faces pleading for help. She stopped and gathered the two small kittens into her arms only to hear the cry of a third not too far off. She found the third and bundled them all into her car - not sure what to do with them.
Fortunately, these three precious kittens were found by Jen Fisher, Development Director for No More Homeless Pets KC. She brought them to our clinic not really knowing their condition or what to expect. Upon closer look, they were found to be flea infested and each of them had an open wound that was infested with maggots. Ugh! What a site!!
But never fear, the team jumped in, cleaned the wounds and cleared out all the maggots. They were then bathed to get rid of the fleas, were treated for worms and given a good meal. This picture was taken less than two days after this treasure of 4 week old kittens was found. They are all doing well and are now warm, rested and being well taken care of. Yes - in about 4 more weeks we will be looking for adoptive homes for them! If interested, call 816-333-7387.
This could have been a very sad story of kittens that were dumped as easy as trash and left to die on the side of the road. Far too many animals are abandoned every year here in Kansas City - whether turned loose to survive outside on their own or taken to a city shelter where they will most likely be put to sleep. Here in Kansas City, nearly 20,000 animals are still dying in our area shelters every year!
No More Homless Pets KC wants to see this change and is working hard to turn Kansas City into a No Kill Community. Your support will help us further this mission. Whether through high volume Spay/Neuter programs, promoting adoption as the right option for getting a pet or working with our community leaders to ensure pet friendly policies are adopted, every program and decision made by NMHPKC will be made with the idea of No Kill in mind.
