Fix KC Cat Clinics are back and "operating" through Fall 2004!

Starting September 12, the NMHP Fix KC cat clinics will be "operating" again throughout the remainder of the year! It is our goal to serve people who cannot afford the full service vet clinics or the low cost spay/neuter clinics.

The NMHP Fix KC clinics are offered for people who are financially disadvantaged and/or individuals who are dealing with feral or stray cats, or large populations of cats.

The cost is $15 per cat which includes spay/neuter, FVRcP and 3 year rabies vaccinations. Clinics will be held at the Humane Society of Greater KC on the following Sundays:

  • September 12 and September 26
  • October 10 and October 24
  • November 7 and November 21
  • December 5

    APPOINTMENTS ARE RE
QUIRED. Please call 816.333.PETS or e-mail info@kcpets.org to schedule an appointment.

June 2004
NMHP in KC Fix KC Clinics

The NMHP’s Fix KC Clinics spring trial program concluded on June 20 and what a success!

Since late April, NMHP in KC held 5 Sunday Fix KC Clinics. A total of 115 cats were spayed and neutered! That means these 115 cats will not be producing hundreds and hundreds of offspring in the future and the cats will be healthier for it!

Dedicated veterinarians, vet techs and caring individuals volunteered at the Fix KC clinics and the clinic space was donated, thus the overall costs were minimized which made the end cost to the “needy” public very affordable. In this initial pilot program, only cats were accepted, but it is hoped that the clinics can be expanded to include dogs in the next year.

  • One lady spent her laundry money (a bag full of quarters!) to get 2 of her cats fixed, (Her other cats were fixed without charge.)

  • One elderly gentleman built a cat carrier out of an abandoned a/c hull, screen wire and duct tape so he could get his cat to the clinic.

  • The employees at a local business took up a collection and raised funds to deal with the feral cats around the business premises. They humanely trapped them, brought them for spay/neutering, returned them to the business location and will continue to provide food, shelter and care for them.

  • A first time feral cat trapper began to deal with the kitties in her neighborhood and in spite of the worry that trapping raises when you have never done it before, she trapped, neutered and released 5 cats.

  • Dozens of the female cats brought to the Fix KC clinics had already delivered at one or more litters. While we would have preferred to get them BEFORE those litters, at least, now we know they will never contribute to the pet overpopulation problem again!

  • Many of the tom cats neutered were badly beaten up. Now, they can expect to live the soft life without fighting and none of them will be fathering any future litters!

  • Numerous young cats were neutered too, ranging in age from 8 weeks to 5 months. We are especially excited that they will NEVER have litters and will NEVER contribute to pet overpopulation. For more info about juvenile spay/neuter go here.

Appropriately, two clinics were held on both Mother's Day and Father's Day and were celebrated by volunteers as "No More Mother's and Father's Days" for all the kitties attending.

These clinics are a really big undertaking requiring the cooperation and help of an alot of people. A big thanks to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City for generously loaning their clinic space and footing the overhead bill, having supplies needed on hand, and much more. A special thanks to all the vets, techs and volunteers who devote their Sundays for such an important event…they truly believe in the spay/neuter cause!

Clinics will begin again in the fall. Seven clinics are tentatively scheduled. At that time, it is hoped that our veterinary network will be larger and that grant money will be in place to help with expenses.

If you’d like to offer financial support to NMHP’s Fix KC clinics and help those who cannot afford to have their pet(s) fixed, please Sponsor a Spay.

If you are interested in volunteering at the Fix KC clinics or helping NMHP in other ways, please let contact us at info@kcpets.org. We will need folks for office staff, cleaning cages after everyone has been released, and to help transport animals to and from the clinic.

Summertime "Sponsor a Spay" Fund Drive

Thanks to the those who generously donated in May 2003 No More Homeless Pets in KC provided free and discount spay/neuter services to hundreds of people that could not afford to do so otherwise.

That means a lot of unwanted litters were prevented AND the overall health of the pets was improved too!

There are thousands of people in Kansas City that cannot afford to have their pets spayed or neutered. Sadly, this results in more litters, more stray animals, and more cats and dogs at shelters every day. With your help, we can make a difference!
