1k surgery marker reached!

At the July 10 Fix KC Cat clinic, the remarkable goal of "1000 cats fixed" was reached!

Since the inception of the NMHP Fix KC Cat Clinics in February 2004, we have "fixed" 1000 cats!  This is good news for people committed to the spay neuter solution and especially to those in need of a spay neuter solution.

The lucky "1K Cat" fixed was Mr. Kitty.  Sadly, he's one of many stray cats that keep getting dumped at a nice lady's house.  Even though this nice lady and her husband are having serious health and financial troubles right now, they have been very active and focused in getting the growing cat problem in their neighborhood under control and keeping the cat troops healthy in the process.  We need more people like that in KC!

Thanks to NMHP and FixKC supporters, we are able to help these folks, and many others, with the cost of getting their cats spayed/neutered.

Appropriately, the 1000th cat was neutered by Dr. Sheila Dodson, the person who dreamed the FixKC Clinic into reality with her determination and hard work. No wonder she's received so many community awards!

A special thanks to the Fix KC Clinic Volunteer Team and to the Humane Society of Greater KC for allowing NMHP to use their clinic space.   For more info about Fix KC Cat Clinics, click here.

NMHPKC Helps Sponsor Adoption Ad

NMHPKC Helps
Sponsor Adoption Ad

NMHPKC has been hearing that adoptions are down for many of our groups.  We also understand that advertising budgets are very limited for many of our groups so No More Homeless Pets KC made an offer to match dollar for dollar for each of our member groups contribution, up to a total of $2500.   We had a total of 13 groups take us on on our offer and raised a total of $1045.  With the NMHPKC match, that gave us a pool of $2090 to work with.  Shown here is a preview of the ad.

The ad will be 3 columns by 5 " ( 6 7/16 " x 5 " ). It will run in the Wednesday, July 27 edition of the Neighborhood News in the following zones: Shawnee/Lenexa, Shawnee Mission, Olathe, Blue Valley/Leawood, Independence/Raytown, Blue Springs, Platte, Northland Clay, Liberty, City Center, and Wyandotte /Leavenworth. Lee's Summit doesn't have a Wednesday Neighborhood News,  so it will run in the Saturday, July 30 issue.

We want to thank all of the groups that participated and we certainly hope this generates some activity for adoptions.  NMHPKC is considering continuing this offer on a periodic basis and if you would like to participate, please contact Gail Longstaff at glongstaff@nmhpkc.org and we will add you to the list for the next ad.

2005 Fix KC Cat Clinics

Kansas City Pet Program
Kansas City Pet Program Clinic was HOT!!

The first Kansas City Pet Program Clinic for 2005 was held June 25 and it was a HOT success with nearly 150 clients attending and temperatures nearing 100 degrees at the drive-thru clinic!  Fortunately, we had a sprinkler and wading pool for our 4 legged and 2 legged friends in which to cool off!   One car, that lacked air conditioning, had several kitties in carriers that were overheating and our volunteers responded quickly with ice cold compresses.

It was wonderful to see dedicated animals owners make the effort in the heat to bring their animals in for their vaccinations and licensing.  One gentleman made two trips to get his four dogs into his small car!  Some people with no cars walked the distance with their animal on leash or in carriers.

The purpose of the KC Pet Program Clinic is to provide an affordable and convenient opportunity for KCMO residents to comply with the city ordinances for rabies vaccinations and city licensing of their pets, and to provide low cost or free spay neuter vouchers in attempt to decrease pet overpopulation in the inner city.

Interestingly, 73 spay/neuter appointments were scheduled that day....that is OVER 50% of the clients attending the clinic that received discount or "no cost" spay neuter vouchers!  That's alot of inner city animals that won't be contributing to the pet overpopulation problem!

The Kansas City Pet Program is sponsored by No More Homeless Pets KC, Spay Neuter Kansas City and Kansas City Missouri Animal Control.

More KC Pet Program Clinics are planned for this year, starting in the fall when the weather is  more favorable.  Check back for more info or email us at info@nmhpkc.org .
